Crucial Tips to Color Shift Film Wrapping
Color shift wrap film has been one of the head-turners among the variety of wrap films. But bear in mind, it usually takes something to be cool and stunning. For color shift film, there might be some extra attention for you to pay during the install.
Color shift film is classified as a multi-layered film. It is often slightly thicker than a standard wrap film because it is added an extra layer (color or lamination) to create the color shift effect.
Due to its shifting effect, this type of film is very directional. This means all panels will have to be applied in a uniformed direction. And the best way to do it properly is to review the logo on the liner before applying each panel. If there is no logo on it, then mark it with arrows.
For squeegee, you can use either medium or soft one. Applying standard squeegeeing technique will be fine. Primarily, remember to keep the angle low and flat.
Usually, the finish of a color shift film will either be gloss or satin, which means to adjust the buffer to each finish is crucial. Choose a dry one for a gloss finish and a wet one for satin.
For heating the film, if it is a gloss finish, either propane or heat gun can be used as a heat source. But if it is satin, you should only apply heat gun.
If wrinkles occurred during the install, bear in mind that color shift film is a multi-layered film. It will very possibly not self-heal 100%. This is because the wrinkles will separate the layers.
So no matter heating or stretching, you need to take extra care to do it thoroughly and evenly. If you overstretch a color shift film, the color and finish of the film will be changed. It goes the same way as wrinkles, overstretching can separate the layers.
When the panel is picked back up, and the memory effect triggered by heat, there is a chance that it cannot be self-healed. If this happened, a new panel will be needed, which can be very costly. So make sure to keep the panel under 10% stretch.
For post heating, since the film is multi-layered, there should be more heat to apply than for standard wrap films. Primarily, do it on all edges and anywhere the film is stretched.
Here are some of the most crucial tips for installing a color shift film. We hope this has answered some of the questions you had. Happy wrapping!
